North Goa Beaches

The beaches in North Goa are the finest in the state offering several activities like adventure sports, wild parties, flea markets and carnivals. Starting from Fort Aguada, the North Goa beaches occupy a stretch of 30 kms ending at Arambol between which lie the world-famous beaches of Sinquerim, Candolim, Calangute, Baga, Anjuna, Vagator, Chapora and Morjim.

The twin beaches of Candolim and Sinquerim are popular among backpackers. Rows of palm trees and casuarinas add to the beauty of the two beaches. Take in the beauty of the beaches and the mighty Mandovi River from the nearby Fort Aguada.

The "Queen of Beaches", Calangute is dotted with tall coconut trees complete with shacks and stalls that sell everything from beer to trinkets. Guesthouses and other budget hotels offer breathtaking views of the ocean. The tiny fish market near the beach is another interesting visit.

Baga Beach is famous for its wild parties. It is an extension of Calangute and less crowded. International tourists frequent this place for water sports and fishing. It also has the maximum ranges of restaurants offering local cuisines to continental food.

Expect a pleasant surprise at Anjuna where you will meet all kinds of people from hippies to musicians. Enjoy the vibrant life at the beach, or shop till you drop at the flea market and get a tattoo for memory.

At Vagator enjoy a view of the Arabian Sea while lying on the soft white sands under a coconut tree. There are two fresh water springs in the vicinity while the Chapora Fort offers the best view of the ocean. The calm sea makes it a good family picnic spot and at the local markets you will find a number of souvenirs and garments. The adjoining Chapora Beach lies crouched near the Fort and the beach is a good place for a long term stay. Check out the fishing community nearby that live in houses built of coconut palms.

Morjim Beach is a paradise for nature lovers. The Beach is a designated and protected habitat for the endangered Olive Ridley turtle and highly recommended for viewing sea birds.

Dona Paula Beach is popular among foreign tourists who come for adventure sports and wild parties. Miramar Beach is worth a visit in the evening to enjoy mesmerizing views of the sunset.
