Betalbatim is one of the few beaches in Goa where you can enjoy a romantic time with your partner cuddling while staring at the setting sun and with very few people to disturb you. The beach lies in south Goa just 2 kms north to Colva and 8 kms from downtown Margao lying sandwiched between Majorda and Colva beaches.
Offering matchless view of the sunset, the beach has won the sobriquet - Sunset Beach. Other than the sunset, nature lovers come to view birds and dolphins here. For this reason, it has emerged as one of the thriving beach destinations of Goa. Birdies are amazed by the variety of species of birds found at the area while dolphins can be easily spotted in the open waters.
The sandy golden beach is lined with mango and palm groves giving the feel as if they are guarding the place. It is also one of the few Goa beaches where cold pine trees grow.
Colva remains practically deserted with intermittent shacks and few fishermen huts adding to the beauty of the place.
Getting There: There are a number of buses plying from Margao and Vasco da Gama. However, the most convenient means of conveyance would be a bike that is easily available on hire.
Where To Stay: A number of resorts and guesthouses are available offering quality accommodation and wide range of facilities. You will find most of them at the beachfronts. There are also few high end resorts if you are looking for comfort.
What To Do: Not many visitors come to the beach, so you can sit here the whole day reconnecting with nature or yourself. Otherwise, come here for sun-bathing under swaying palms with the sound of the shimmering waves to drown you to sleep. Lifeguards monitor the beach to ensure that there are no incidents of drowning.
If you are feeling active and want to explore the great outdoors, don’t forget to take your binoculars and try to count the endless numbers of birds flying past. If you are lucky you might just come face-to-face with a dolphin. Many fishermen can take you on their traditional wooden boat to spot the dolphins.
Another main attraction is the Church of St Thomas. The grand white building is an architectural delight with the interiors ornately decorated with biblical murals and statutes.
Most of the hotels have their individual restaurants where you can get the best Goan, Indian and Portuguese cuisine. But most of the tourist head to the beach shacks for their meal.
