Bogmalo is among the less visited beaches in Goa that offers unsurpassed view of the sunset. Being less crowded, it is perfect for picnicking and also offers the best diving facility in Goa. Bogmalo is a mile of curving sandy beach situated in a small bay that remains generally quiet with fishermen villages scattered all around. The beach is located at the heart of the state just 18 kms from Dabolim Airport and 9 kms from the port of Vasco. Even after the opening of the five-star Oberoi hotel, Bogmalo has managed to retain its exclusiveness.
Getting There: The beach is well connected by road so hire a motorcycle taxi or a regular taxi either from Vasco or from the airport. Buses are also available from Vasco and Panaji. Pre-paid taxis are available for use locally.
Attractions: Bogmalo Beach is an expansive stretch of sand lined with coconut palms opening in to the Arabian Sea. Enjoy a time of meditative silence in the shade or enjoy the simplicity of a village life by visiting the local fishermen community.
The beach is another popular place for diving. It has one of India's few diving schools offering a course in open water diving for beginners and for the advanced. Under the guidance of a guide, explore the coral beds of the ocean and if you are lucky, you might spot a few shipwrecks. The diving facility is available at half a dozen sites around Grande Island. The water at Bogmalo is safe for swimming and provided with a lifeguard.
The Sao Jacinto Island is a beauty that should not be missed. There is much to see here from beautiful old houses and chapel to an ancient lighthouse. Otherwise you can watch the villagers drawing water from an ancient spring.
There are also a number of beach shack restaurants where you can indulge in typical Goan cuisine. If you are extra hungry than bite on some tiger prawns or lobsters at the Full Moon Kneipe resort.
Accomodation: Bogmalo is meant especially for package tours so it is advisable to book your accommodation in advance. Bogmalo Beach Resort, Coconut Creek Resort and Raj Resorts are popular among those desiring luxury, and for short-stay purposes guest houses like Joet's Guest House and Sarita Guest House offer comfort with excellent prices.
