If you are coming to Goa for that much-needed alone time Canaguinim is the best place for you. The beach is known for its tranquil atmosphere with practically no crowd or noise where you can claim the entire stretch of the beach all to yourself. If you desire
more space then walk down to the adjoining Zorint beach which is always people-free. Canaguinim is close to the city of Margao south of Betul Beach. Though much smaller than its cousin Betul, Canaguinim undoubtedly makes up for its size through its beauty. A combination of lush greenery, crystal waters and sandy sands, this south Goa beach is extremely soothing to the jaded eye. Dramatically surrounded by a low hill and river inlet at the end, it is also a good place for beach walks.
Getting There: Most of the buses from Margao plying to the nearby villages and the Cabo de Rama fort stop at the beach. However, taxi or tourist vehicle are available for hire.
Accommodation: You will find plenty of rooms for rent at Canaguinim. Some of the more famous ones are nterContinental The Lalit Goa Resort, the Heritage Village Club Goa, Zuri White Sands Resort, Taj Exotica, Goa Canaguinim Beach, Nanutel Hotel, Hotel Panchsheel, Cleopatra Resorts and the Lotus Beach Resort.
Attractions: Reconnect with your inner soul by meditating at the beach or bask in the sun for a perfect tan. After that, take a dip in the water but be careful not to venture too far out.
The beach is also famous for the Cabo de Rama fort located in the Canacona taluka
atop a nearby hillock. From here, one can enjoy a majestic view of the Arabian Sea from the western side. The moated fort also has plenty of history to share; it witnessed bloody battles between Hindu, Muslim and Portugal rulers and housed a notorious government prison till 1955. It is also considered as a religious Hindu place where Lord Rama along with his wide Sita took shelter during his 12-year exile. Many visitors also come to pray at the small chapel inside the fort.
The only downside is that the beach is not really safe at night due to its elusiveness.
