Goa attracts over 2 million tourists annually and to accommodate the ever increasing tourist inflow there are range of hotels to suit the pocket of every traveler. The hotels in Goa can be broadly classified under three categories: luxury, budget or cheap. Majority of the tourist put up in Panjim, the capital of Goa, in the northern part of the state. North Goa receives more visitors than the South because the atmosphere here is livelier while South Goa is popular among those seeking calm and solitude. The finest hotels of the state are found in the north though ample and varieties of hotels are also found in the south.
Some of the uber-class hotels located in North Goa are the Whispering Palms Beach Resort, Taj Fort Aguada Beach Resort, Taj Holiday Village and Vainguinim Valley Resort. These hotels have tastefully done up rooms, suites and villas, serving the best cuisine from all over the world along with Goan food. They also come complete with business and recreational arrangements like conference venues, secretarial services, swimming pool, spa center and gymnasium. Alternatively, for those looking for a more modest-range, it is better to decide from the budget and cheap categories. These hotels are located near the railway station and some close to the popular beach spots. Some of these even come with recreational and business facilities. The most popular ones are Alor Holiday, Bethany Inn, Paradise Village, Villa Anjuna and Casa Vagator.
South Goa is particularly popular among those intending a long stay. Most of the luxury hotels are scattered around the beaches. The most sought-after ones among the affluent class are Holiday Inn, Bogmallo Beach Resort, Leela Palace, Inter Continental The Lalit Goa Resort, Park Hyatt and Majorda Beach. These hotels are as attractive as the ones in the north coming with Portuguese theme interiors along with business and recreational facilities. Nevertheless, the other two categories besides being more affordable also provide a homely atmosphere which is also very attractive for any traveler. Most of these are found near the beaches and near the airport. The budget hotels have well-maintained neat rooms but are quite basic nevertheless. The most popular ones are Hotel Oceanic, Colva Residency, Vasco Residency, Margao Residency, Shangrila Beach Hotel and the Coconut Creek.
Another popular stay option are the 'fisherman's huts' or beach shacks as they are popularly called. The best shacks are found in Calangute, Baga and Colva beaches. The most popular ones being Splash and Castaway. Though these shacks boast of none of the comfort and facilities available in most hotels, it will let you savor a bit of rustic life during your holiday.
