This former traditional fishing village has survived the relentless commercialization seen in other Goa beaches. Fortunately, for this reason, Varca is less crowded than most beaches and much cleaner. If this isn’t enough of a draw already then the soft white powdery sands thronged by flirty tall palms and the clear azure waters should. Giving a rustic feel to the place a couple of tiny fishermen huts dot the beach with traditional wooden boats bobbling in the water.
Vara Beach is 2 kms away from the more famous Benaulim in South Goa. Visitors from all over the globe come for dolphin watching, sun bathing or to relax and to try exquisite seafood the beach is renowned for.
Getting There: Margao is 18 kms away from Varca. There are buses plying directly from Margao or you can either hire a taxi or bike. Alternatively, you can also hire a taxi if you are coming from Dabolim Airport, which is 41 kms away. To travel locally, you can hire scooters and cycles.
Where To Stay: To make the most of your holiday, you should stay at the palm thatched houses. But there are also numbers of luxury hotels and resorts that come with their own private beaches. The Varca Beach Resorts is the most popular as it provides comfort at a manageable price for budget travelers. Colonia Jose Menino Beach Resort, Bissmark Hotel, Annapurna Hotel and Resort De Go are other popular options along with the Club Mahindra Varca Beach Resort. Houses are also available on rent.
Activities: Enjoy the bountiful beauty of nature while you are here because few Goan beaches are as tranquil and as secluded as Varca. Sun bathe, read a book, relax or go for a swim after checking with the lifeguards. But your priority should be the dolphin cruises for which you can hire local boats. You might even come close enough to touch some of the friendly dolphins. If not, take in the breathtaking scenery along the River Sal through a boat ride.
Verca is the perfect place to experience typical Goan culture. Visit the fishermen community, converse or dine with them you will be overwhelmed by their hospitality.
Though you will find good seafood in most Goa beaches, you will get the best at Varca because the people here are recognized for their culinary skills with their seafood being a huge craze. You will find most of the eating joints at the beach.
