Trichy also known as 'Trichurapalli' is the second capital of Tamil Nadu. It is one of the best sanitized cities in India. Due to its geographic location Trichy is also called 'Heart of Tamil Nadu'. Trichy has a moderate and pleasant climate, with mild winter and humid summer. Its name is derived from three headed demon 'Trishira'. Situated on the banks of the river 'Kaveri', Trichy is home to Nagraj Cholan and many historic temples, monuments, churches and mosques.
The main landmark sign of this city is Rockfort Temple located in the heart of the city. Initially started by the Pallavs, it was mainly completed by Nayaks of Madurai. This temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva and Lord Ganesha. This city has very rich and civilized history and tradition. The oldest made human Dam –Kallanai was made alongside the river Kaveri. There are several elegantly carved temples f the Pallav period having 'Sri Nadrudayan Vinayakar Temple in the eastern side dedicated to Lord Ganesha. The main guard gate is thronged on all festive occasions. Trichy is home to greatest number of chapels (churches) in India.
Some of the famous ones are Lourdes Church, Redeemer's Church and The Cathedral. The Anna Science centre- Planetarium is a hot favorite among science enthusiasts. Some of the famous picnic destinations include Grand Anicut (old dam), Mukkombu or the Upper Anicut where the river Kollidam branches off from the Kaveri, Viralimalai a hill lock with peacock sanctuary at the foothills, an exotic Jain monastery with fresco paintings in the cave. There is an eye-pleasing waterfall named 'Pulianchalai' in the foot hills of koli hills. Kollam pond is a large water body having different kinds of birds' species including ducks and kingfisher.
Overall Trichy is a nice place to visit due its high literacy rate and well sanitation facility.
