Bird Watching Tours In India

An ornithologist or any bird enthusiasts are in for some memorable time in India because in India there are about 1,250 bird species, 14% of those found in the world. And also, out of the 27 orders and 155 families that bird life has been classified into, 20 orders and 77 families are seen here. The abundance and diversity of bird life is due to the wide attitudinal range, diversity of vegetation and climate.

Bird Watching Tours In North India: The hilly terrain, abundant forests and wetlands of North India supports a rich bio-diversity. Due to this, a large number of migratory birds flock here in winter. Also, a lot of native birds like the great hornbill, fishing eagles, red billed leothrix, and babblers, black hooded and maroon orioles are often spotted at the Corbett National Park and surrounding areas. The Bharatpur Bird Sanctuary has about 375 bird species like the herons, and egrets, ruddy breasted crake, brown crake, sarus cranes and common cranes. At Ranthambore National Park birds such as black francolin, painted francolin, common quail, spot-billed duck, common teal and garganey can be spotted.

Bird Watching Vacations In South India: Located at the Western Ghats, Salem Ali Bird Sanctuary is home to over 270 bird species, the most common ones being nightjar, frogmouths & owls, brown breasted flycatcher, bulbuls and wynad laughing thrush. Lucky birders often spot rare bird species at Munnar like the nilgiri tahr, nillgiri wood pigeons, laughing thrush, nilgiri flycatchers and black and rufous flycatcher.

Bird Watching Holidays In East India: At Assam's Kaziranga National Park there are over 450 bird species including winter migratory birds out of which 18 are world engendered species. The Bengal florican, spot billed pelican, falcated teal and white-eyed pochard can be found here. At Panbari Reserved Forest, the great hornbill, redheaded trogon, green-backed heron, white bellied heron, black-necked storks, and spoonbill are often spotted. The Eaglesnest Wildlife Sanctuary at Arunachal Pradesh boasts of its own special birds like the black stork, northern goshawk, pied falconet, common hill-partridge, brown-throated tree creeper, ashy wood pigeon, crimson breasted pied woodpecker and rufous-necked hornbill.

Bird Watching Trips In West India: Blessed with large water body, blue lagoons and mixed forests, Gujarat is the best place for birdies in west India. At the Little Rann of Kutch both resident and migratory like greater hoopoe lark, sand grouse, button quail, courser, francolins, chat, and redstarts can be seen. The Gir National Park is another popular destination for birders where crested and serpent hawk eagles, falcons, sand grouses, quails, oriole and flycatchers are spotted with ease.
